Online Master of Science in Education, Option in Online Teaching and Learning

Curriculum


Degree Requirements

To earn a Master of Science in Education with an Option in Online Teaching and Learning, you must complete 10 courses: 8 required, 2 electives. All courses are 4.5 quarter units (equivalent to 3.0 semester units).

The first four courses (the "Certificate" courses) are 5 weeks in length.  EDUI 6701 & 6702 are offered every Fall and Spring quarters.  EDUI 6703 & 6704 are offered every Winter and Summer quarters. In their first quarter, students take EDUI 6701 and 6702; in their second quarter, 6703 and 6704. After that, there are more choices, except for 6706 which must be taken in the third quarter of enrollment to fulfill the university Graduate Writing Requirement. The two remaining required courses, 6705 and 6707, are offered in alternating quarters. There are two required electives, one from the "theory" series (677x) and one from the "methods" series (678x). The remaining required course is the Project, which is taken in the last quarter.

Program Format

The M.S. in Education with an Option in Online Teaching and Learning Degree Program is conveniently offered online, making it accessible to students and working adults anytime, anywhere. The program requires that students have access to a computer and modem that is connected to the Internet. Students will have password access to Blackboard, our course delivery system for all their courses.

Note: Students who are on Financial Aid must take two courses per quarter in order to fulfill the 8 unit minimum requirement for full-time graduate status. For the 5 week courses (EDUI 6701, EDUI 6702, EDUI 6703 & EDUI 6704), you must register for EDUI 6701 and EDUI 6702 in your first quarter and EDUI 6703 and EDUI 6704 in your second quarter. After that, all courses are 10 weeks in length and you need to sign up for both at the beginning of each quarter.

Once you have completed the four prerequisite courses (EDUI 6701 to 6704) you may enroll in higher numbered courses.

  • Please note that if you have just completed EDUI 6701 6704, one of the next courses you take must be EDUI 6706. You will not be allowed to take any other course until you complete EDUI 6706 (with at least a grade of "B" or better).
