State-Approved Provider

California State University, East Bay Continuing Education is a State Bar of California approved MCLE Provider (provider number 10897).

Cal State East Bay certifies that these activities have been approved for MCLE credit by the State Bar of California, so you can be certain that you are receiving quality legal education. The amount of credited hours you receive per course may vary, so be sure to check the amount of hours designated in each course description.

MCLE Super Saturday

Thank you to those who participated in the January 2024 Super Saturday event. The next MCLE Super Saturday event is anticipated to take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

We offer a full day of programs for paralegals needing to meet some or all of the requirements of Business & Professions Code Section 6450(d). State Law requires that most paralegals have completed 8 hours of continuing legal education every two years.

The 2024 Super Saturday event included topics in:

Mindfulness Tips for Attorneys & Paralegals - Jennifer Harrigan, Psy.D. & Dwight Dickerson, J.D. (8:30am – 10:30am)

Practicing mindfulness-based stress reduction can better equip us to deal with the stressful challenges facing us in our workplace and lives. This program will look at how stress has impacted productivity in the legal workplace. While not a full-blown course, this program will offer stress reducing mindfulness tips to help get you through the day and increase your effectiveness in the legal workplace. {2.0 MCLE competence credit hours}

The Duty of Care for Property Owners: Pushing Back Against the Unbounded Imagination of Plaintiff Attorneys - Jimmy Ly, J.D. (8:30am – 10:30am)

This course will provide insight into general concepts of the duty of care, and the scope and extent upon which owners or lessees of real property have a duty to prevent harm. The course will be interactive, and despite the serious nature of the subject matter, will be infused with appropriate levity to enhance the learning environment. {2.0 MCLE credit hours}

Legal Ethics: Things Change – What’s New (Or Not)! - Dwight Dickerson, J.D. (10:45am – 12:45pm)

The pandemic has changed the landscape as to how lawyers interact with clients, employees, the court, and each other. This program will explore recent State Bar ethics opinions that have addressed ethical issues that have arisen in this new and now not so new legal environment. {2.0 MCLE legal ethics credit hours}

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Legal Ethics - Doug Lusk, J.D. (1:30pm – 3:30pm)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its associated tools are everywhere. This includes the legal profession. To thrive and survive, an understanding of what is not only necessary AI but essential. This session will do a deep dive into what is actually AI and the resulting legal ethical implications associated with its use. {2.0 MCLE legal ethics credit hours}

California Privacy Act: What You Need to Know - Russell Jackman, J.D. (3:45pm – 5:45pm)

The right to privacy is specifically written into the California Constitution. It applies to both government and private entities. What are the duties and responsibilities of a business [and yes that includes lawyers] to protect their client’s information? This session does a deep dive into the California Privacy Act and other laws that provide guidance to practicing attorneys and businesses regarding their legal obligations. {2.0 MCLE implicit bias legal credit hours}

eDiscovery Basics on Super Saturday - Alex Lubarsky, J.D. (3:45pm – 5:45pm)

Does the concept of e-discovery in light of the relatively new California and Federal rules leave you a bit uncertain as to how they work, what they are and how to comply with them? You're not alone! Join us on Super Saturday for a soup to nuts overview of e-discovery law, process and procedure along with a live demonstration of an e-discovery review and production tool. Recent statutory and case law rules will be discussed in addition to electronic data handling best practices and proven successful and defensible digital data review and production strategies. {2.0 MCLE credit hours}
