| Description: | Meet the lesser-known Shakespeare, the poet rather than the dramatist. The Bard was master of the sonnet, one of the most popular of 16th Century literary forms, used for love, complaint, and celebration. Dr. Bryant will guide you through a selection of Shakespeare's sonnets, analyzing the form itself and tracking it from its Italian origins forward through Donne, Milton, and Wordsworth. Learn how this great literary device evolved in both form and usage. You may even discover "what is your substance, whereof are you made." |
