Certificate Program

The California State University, East Bay Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) meets the needs of those who plan to serve as English-language teachers in the U.S. and overseas. Taught by top TESOL instructors, students who enter the program will learn and apply the most effective and up-to-date second-language teaching techniques. Interested students also can obtain a master's degree in English with a focus on TESOL.

Cal State East Bay's TESOL Certificate Program also meets the needs of international students who intend to become English-language teachers. The specifically tailored TESOL curriculum includes courses that will make them more confident English users, as well as teachers.

Classes are held at our Hayward Hills Campus.

Program Objectives

  • To give graduates the theoretical foundation and practical skills necessary to become confident and effective English-language teachers.
  • To provide graduates the necessary skills and confidence in writing lesson plans, designing curricula, conducting assessments, and other areas, as they apply to a second-language classroom.
