Teaching Hindi as a Heritage Language

Certificate Program

The California State University, East Bay Teaching Hindi as a Heritage Language Certificate Program benefits all levels of Hindi language teachers. Those who already work in the field will enhance their skills and broaden their range of employment opportunities, while those interested in entering the field will acquire the necessary educational foundation.

Offered in collaboration with the India Community Center, Milpitas, the program prepares students to teach Hindi in a variety of settings, whether those be language schools or after-school and weekend Hindi schools.

Program Objectives

• To provide graduates a thorough and up-to-date grounding in Hindi linguistics, cross-cultural communication and Hindi language teaching approches, both theory and practice
• To prepare graduates for teaching positions in language institutes, community schools and after-school programs
