Human Resource Management
Certificate Program
The California State University, East Bay Certificate in Human Resource
Management (HRM) benefits both HR professionals and non-HR professionals
responsible for implementing human resource policies. The program provides students
with a working knowledge of all evolving aspects of the field, now a requirement
given HR's increasingly strategic nature.
Students who take part in the Human Resource Management certificate program appreciate
its emphasis on practice over theory. They especially appreciate its
one-day-per-course seminar format, a venue designed to let them exchange
ideas with peers and learn from others' experiences. And as the program
is conveniently offered in downtown Oakland, it is easily accessible
via public transportation or car for those who live or work in the San
Francisco and East Bay Area.
Cal State East Bay offers three HRM certificates: Basic, Advanced and
Executive. Those with little prior academic human resource education or human resource training
will find the Basic program particularly valuable.
Program Objectives
Specific results graduates can expect will depend on which courses
they enroll in. But at its core, the Program prepares human resource professionals
to— whatever their function and level of experience, in whatever
type and size of organization—be more confident and strategically-oriented
human resource practitioners.
Who Should Attend
- Experienced HR professionals who are seeking to update their knowledge
and skills.
- New HR professionals who seek the knowledge, skills and perspectives
that will help them excel at their jobs and advance in the field.
- Professionals considering a career change into HR who want to explore
the field as well as make themselves more desirable candidates for
HR positions.
- Human resource specialists in any of the five functional areas of human resource
management (human resource planning, recruitment and selection; human
resource development; compensation and benefits; employee safety and
health; and employee and labor relations), particularly those involved
in employee benefits, employee relations, recruiting, wage and salary
administration, affirmative action and labor relations.
- Line managers who seek greater skill in interviewing and hiring
new employees, training employees, conducting performance evaluations
of their direct reports and other HR activities they are responsible
for carrying out.
